What is Andrographolide powder?
Andrographolide powder is an organic substance with molecular formula C20H30O5, white square prism or flake crystal. The main active ingredient of the natural plant Andrographis paniculata has the functions of dispelling heat and detoxification, reducing inflammation and relieving pain, and has special effects on bacterial and viral upper respiratory tract infections and dysentery. It is known as a natural antibiotic drug. This product is a diterpenoid lactone compound, which is hardly soluble in water and can only be administered orally.
Andrographolide is a white square prismatic or flaky crystal (ethanol or methanol), odorless and bitter in taste. Soluble in boiling ethanol, slightly soluble in methanol or ethanol, very slightly soluble in chloroform, almost insoluble in water or ether. Melting point 230～231℃

Function & Application

1. Anti-pathogenic microorganisms:
Andrographolide and neoandrographolide both inhibit and delay the rise in body temperature caused by pneumococcus or hemolytic streptococcus, but andrographolide is stronger than neoandrographolide.
2. Antipyretic effect:
Andrographolide has different degrees of antipyretic effect on endotoxin fever in rabbits, fever caused by pneumococcus or hemolytic streptococcus.
3. Anti-inflammatory effects:
Andrographis paniculata A, B, C, and D have different degrees of anti-inflammatory effects. 1g/kg administration can inhibit the increase in the permeability of skin or abdominal capillaries in mice caused by xylene or acetic acid, and reduce Selye granulation. The amount of acute exudate caused by croton oil in the cysts was not significantly affected by the proliferation of granulation tissue.
4. Effects on the immune function of the body:
The andrographis paniculata preparation Xinyandeping (containing esters and ketones) can increase the serum lysozyme level in mice and enhance the phagocytic ability of peritoneal macrophages and neutrophils.
5.Anti-fertility effect:
 Andrographis paniculata has obvious effect of aborting pregnancy. Oral administration of Andrographis paniculata can prevent contraception in mice and abortion in pregnant rabbits.
6. Gallbladder and hepatoprotective effect:
Andrographis paniculata has a choleretic effect on rats, and can increase the liver weight of rats and shorten the sleep time caused by sodium cyclobarbital. Pre-administration of andrographolide can counteract the hepatotoxic effects caused by carbon tetrachloride, D-galactosamine and acetamidophenol, and can significantly reduce the levels of SGPT, SGOT, SALP, and HTG, respectively.
7. Anti-tumor effect:
In vitro experiments have shown that Andrographis paniculata has an inhibitory effect on DNA synthesis in cultured breast cancer cells.
8. Other functions:
Andrographolide can increase adrenal cortex function, and Andrographis A, B, C, and D can atrophy the thymus in young mice at higher doses.
